Asian Garlic Tofu
This crispy
seared garlic and sesame tofu will change your mind about the tofu almost
instantly!
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup Hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- green onions for garnish
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 package super firm tofu
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
- rice for serving
Instructions
First, Remove
the tofu from the package. Place about 4 paper napkins on a plate. Place the
tofu on top of the plate and cover with more paper towels. Place a cast iron
pan or something heavy on top. Let sit for 30 minutes.
Then, in a
medium bowl, combine the Hoisin sauce, soy sauce, sugar, ginger, garlic and red
pepper flakes.
Cut the tofu
into bite-size pieces. Place in a bowl with the sauce and toss to coat. Let sit
for 30 minutes.
Heat the
olive oil in a medium cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
When really hot,
add the tofu. Once well grasped on the bottom, turn it over. Continue to cook
until the bottom is seared.
Drizzle with
sesame oil and remove from heat.
Sprinkle
with green onions and serve with rice.
