Easy Soft Flatbread Recipe
This
homemade flatbread recipe is super easy to prepare and is perfect for
sandwiches, gyros or even mini-pizzas!
Ingredients
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tbsp oil (for cooking)
- 3 1/2 tbsp / 50g butter (1.75 oz)
- 3/4 cup / 185 ml milk
- 2 cups / 300g plain flour (all purpose flour) (level cups, unsifted, not packed), + keep 1/4 cup extra for dusting & adjusting dough
Instructions
First, mix
the butter and milk and heat until the butter is just melted - on the stove or
in the microwave.
Then, mix 2
cups flour, salt, butter and milk.
Sprinkle the
work surface with flour, then knead for a few minutes until it is smooth - it does
not need much mixing. Add extra flour if the dough is too sticky.
Wrap with
food film and let stand at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
Sprinkle the
top of the flour bench, cut the dough into 4 pieces, roll it into balls, then
spread it in round about 0.8 "/ 0.3 cm thick.
Heat 1/2
tablespoon olive oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat - or less if you
have a heavy-bottomed skillet. (Note 1)
Place a
flatbread in the pan, cook about 1 to 1 1/2 minutes - it should bubble (see
picture in the post) - then turn over and cook the other side, pressing if it
swells. There should be small golden brown spots on both sides.
Stack the
baked bread and wrap it with a cloth - the moisture helps to soften the
surface, making them even more flexible.
Continue cooking
with the remaining pieces.
Optional:
Brush or spray bread with olive oil or melted butter for a more luxurious
finish. Or even with melted butter mixed with chopped garlic for a garlic
butter version!
