Homemade Mac and Cheese Casserole
This oven-baked mac and cheese is a family favorite, loved by children and adults alike. It uses a combination of cheeses, layered in the dish and melted into a rich, creamy cheese sauce, for the ultimate in cheese flavor! Perfect for a comforting dinner or as an accompaniment to the holidays!
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon of mustard powder
- 12 oz of dry macaroni
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup fresh parmesan
- 1 cup light cream, about 10-12% MF
- 1 teaspoon of onion powder
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 can optional 10.75 oz condensed cream of cheddar soup
- 4 cups sharp cheddar cheese, divided
Instructions
First, preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
Then, cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain and run under cold water.
Melt butter over medium heat in a large saucepan. Whisk in the flour and cook for 2 minutes while stirring. Slowly stir in the cream, milk, mustard powder onion powder, salt and pepper to taste. Cook over medium heat, stirring until thickened.
Remove from the heat and stir in the Parmesan and 3 cups of cheddar cheese until melted. Add soup if you use it.
Toss cheese sauce and macaroni noodles together. Pour into a greased 9 × 13 mold. Top with the rest of the cheese.
Bake 18 to 24 minutes or until mixture is bubbly. Don't overcook. Let cool 10 to 15 minutes before serving. Happy Cooking Time.
