Slow Cooker General Tso's Chicken
This
Crockpot General Tso chicken is really the best. It's super easy to prepare,
soft, sticky and has just the right amount of heat. You will love it!
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 3 large boneless skinless chicken breasts (about 2 pounds), chopped into bite size pieces
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1 cup corn starch
Sauce
- 4 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoons minced garlic
- 4 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 4 tablespoons hoisin sauce (can be found in the Asian section at most markets)
- steamed or fried rice for serving
Instructions
First, preheat
the oil in a non-stick pan or skillet over medium heat. Whisk together the corn
starch, salt, 1 teaspoon garlic powder and pepper.
Then, add
the cornstarch mixture and the chicken pieces to a large zippered bag. Seal and
shake to coat the chicken.
Add the
coated chicken pieces to the pan. Sauté 1 to 2 minutes until golden. (This
chicken will always be raw in the middle at this point, it's okay)
In a bowl,
combine all the sauce ingredients and whisk to combine. Add half of the slow
cooker with the chicken pieces. Cook over low heat for 4 hours.
Immediately
before serving, add the rest of the sauce to the slow cooker and stir gently.
Serve with rice. Happy Cooking time.
