Swiss Steak Recipe

 Swiss Steak Recipe

Is there anything tastier than a juicy Swiss steak and a baked potato or mashed potato? I also like having salad with this dish, but it is not necessary. You can use a nice Italian or French bread and make parmesan toast with garlic or bread sticks

Ingredients
  • olive oil
  • 2 lb cubed sirloin steak
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 large green bell pepper sliced
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp garlic salt plus additional as needed
  • 3 Tbsp tomato paste if needed to thicken
  • 2 Tbsp chopped flat leaf parsley
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan or shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 large sweet onion cut into thin wedges
  • 4 tsp Mediterranean Herb seasoning, divided i.e. McCormick's
  • 2 14.5 oz cans fire roasted tomatoes with garlic

Instructions

First, To make seasoned flour: In a small bowl, combine the flour, 1 tbsp. Tea seasoning with Mediterranean and garlic salt. Sprinkle steaks with seasoned flour on all sides.

Then, Sprinkle a large pan with olive oil. Heat the steaks on both sides for about 2 minutes on each side. Do not cook well.

Meanwhile, arrange green peppers and half of the onion at the bottom of the slow cooker. Sprinkle salt with garlic and black pepper to taste.

Arrange the steaks on the top. Garnish with the remaining onion. Sprinkle with Worcestershire sauce.

Deglaze pan with roasted tomatoes, brown sugar, bay leaves, 3 tbsp.
Seasoned Mediterranean style, red pepper flakes and 3 tbsp. Tomato paste.
Season with garlic salt and black pepper to taste. Scrape the brown pieces from the bottom of the pan. Pour the sauce over the steaks in the slow cooker.

Cover and cook on low heat for 6 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.

Can possibly use tomato paste to thicken the sauce at the end of cooking, if desired.

Serve on mashed potatoes with Swiss cheese, rice or egg noodles. garnished with chopped fresh parsley and a pinch of parmesan cheese or grated Swiss cheese. Happy Cooking Time.
