KOREAN STYLE BBQ BEEF
KOREAN BBQ BEEF - A traditional Korean barbecue beef dish that is sautéed in a sweet and savory marinade; the perfect meal served with rice and kimchi!
INGREDIENTS:
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon of freshly grated ginger
- 1 1/2 pound boneless rib eye
- 2 tablespoons of light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, divided
- 2 tablespoons of toasted sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon of toasted sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
- 1/2 small pear, peeled and coarsely grated
- 1 tablespoon of gochujang (Korean red chili paste)
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
DIRECTIONS:
First, wrap the steak in plastic wrap and place it in the freezer for 30 minutes. Unwrap and cut across the grain into 1/4-inch-thick slices.
Then, in a medium bowl, combine pear, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger and gochujang. In a 1 gallon Ziploc bag, combine soy sauce mixture and steak; marinate for at least 2 hours to overnight, turning the bag occasionally.
Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a cast iron drip pan over medium-high heat. * Working in batches, add the steak to the grill pan in a single layer and cook, turning once, until charred and cooked through, about 2-3 minutes on the side. Repeat with 1 tablespoon of remaining vegetable oil and the steak.
Serve immediately, garnished with green onions and sesame seeds, if desired. Happy Cooking Time.
NOTES:
* If you don't have a cast iron grill pan, you can also use a large cast iron pan.
