Cheese and bacon strata

Cheese and bacon strata

A breakfast casserole - in the form of a cake! All the morning essentials are present - bacon, eggs, milk, bread and cheese - it's a breakfast layer that tastes like a cross between quiche, omelet and savory French toast with a cream cheese. inside and a crispy golden surface.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 10 slices of cooked bacon, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 2 cups (6 oz / 170 g) grated cheddar cheese
  • 1¼ cup (10 oz / 300 ml) milk
  • 6 eggs
  • 7 cups (14 oz / 420 g) baguette (preferably slightly stale)
  • Parsley, finely chopped for garnish

Instructions

First, in a large bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, salt and pepper in a large bowl.

Then, slice baguette into 1 inch (2 cm) cubes.

Place the bread in the bowl followed by the cheese and cooked bacon. Mix, making sure all the bread is coated. Reserve in the refrigerator for an hour or until all the egg is soaked in the bread. (I leave mine overnight in the fridge for a very good soaking)

To bake:

Preheat oven to 350 ° F (180 ° C)

Grease an 8-inch springform cake pan. Pour the bread mixture into the cake pan, pat the bread cubes to compress them, and sprinkle with a little more bacon and cheese if you have any. Cover with foil.

Bake for 25 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes or until the middle is firm to the touch.

Let stand 5 minutes before removing the hinge and slicing it to serve. Garnish with parsley and enjoy!

Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Happy Cooking Time.
