Beginners' christmas cake

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Position the oven rack; Preheat oven to hamper . Line the bottom and sides of a 19 cm square cake pan with parchment paper in three layers, placing the foil 5 cm above the edges of the pan.
Beat butter and sugar during a small bowl with an electrical mixer until combined; Stir the eggs, one at a time, until they're combined between the additions. The mixture will probably thicken at now , but it'll stay together later.
3. Scrape the dough into an outsized bowl; add jam and fruit, mix well with one hand.
4. Sift flour and seasonings over the mixture; add sherry, mix well.
5. Drop a spoonful of the mixture into the corner of the pan to carry the foil in place; spread the remaining batter into the pan.
6. Drop the cake pan from a height of about 15 cm on the bench to store the mixture within the pan and pop any large air bubbles; Smooth the surface of the cake batter with a humid metal spatula, decorate the highest with almonds.
7. Bake the cake within the slow oven for about 3 hours. Remove cake from oven; brush the highest with additional sherry. Cover the pan tightly with foil; chill the cake on a baking sheet.
