Slow Cooker Barbecue Chicken Wings
Slow-cooker barbecue chicken wings are a great appetizer for game day, baked chicken wings coated with barbecue sauce. Crispy inside and soft and sticky outside!
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon sweet paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce, divided
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 4 pounds chicken wings and drummettes or chicken drumsticks, trimmed
- Vegetable oil spray
Instructions
First, combine sugar, paprika, mustard, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper. Place the ingredients in a large plastic zipper bag. Put the chicken wings or drumsticks in the bag and shake until all the chicken is coated; transfer to the slow cooker. Pour 1/2 cup barbecue sauce over the chicken and toss to coat. Cover and cook until chicken is tender, 3-4 hours on low heat for wings, 4-6 hours on low heat for drumsticks.
Then, place the oven rack 10 inches from the grill element and heat on high. Place a cooling rack on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil and cover the rack with a spray of vegetable oil. Transfer the chicken to a prepared baking sheet; discard the braising liquid that remains in the slow cooker.
Brush the chicken with an additional 1/2 cup barbecue sauce and grill until lightly crisp and crisp (to your liking), about 10 to 15 minutes. Turn the chicken over, brush with the remaining 1/2 cup barbecue sauce and continue to grill until lightly charred and crisp on the second side, 5 to 10 minutes more. To serve.
Note on the chopsticks ... I made them with wings and chopsticks and the wings turn out to be much juicier and have more flavor. The drumsticks are good, but we prefer all the wings. Happy Cooking Time.
