Southern Chocolate Cobbler
Chocolate
Cobbler is a simple recipe to make with big results. When baking, it forms a
cake-like filling and a sticky chocolate sauce on the bottom.
Ingredients
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup butter
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- Chocolate Cobbler Topping:
- 3 cups boiling water
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- vanilla ice cream for serving (optional, but recommended)
Instructions
First, preheat
the oven to 350ยบ F.
Then, place
the butter in a 9x13 baking dish and in the oven to melt. Then remove from the
oven and set aside.
Combine
sugar, cocoa powder, flour, milk and vanilla extract for the dough. Pour the
mixture into the baking dish on top of the melted butter.
In a
separate bowl, combine 2 cups of sugar and ½ cup of cocoa powder. Sprinkle this
topping mixture on top of the dough. Pour the boiling water over the filling.
Bake 35 to
40 minutes or until the top is set. The bottom of the shoemaker will still be a
little loose. Leave to cool for 15 to 20 minutes.
Garnish with
vanilla ice cream (optional) and serve.
