Southern Chocolate Cobbler

Southern Chocolate Cobbler

Chocolate Cobbler is a simple recipe to make with big results. When baking, it forms a cake-like filling and a sticky chocolate sauce on the bottom.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • Chocolate Cobbler Topping:
  • 3 cups boiling water
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • vanilla ice cream for serving (optional, but recommended)

Instructions

First, preheat the oven to 350ยบ F.

Then, place the butter in a 9x13 baking dish and in the oven to melt. Then remove from the oven and set aside.

Combine sugar, cocoa powder, flour, milk and vanilla extract for the dough. Pour the mixture into the baking dish on top of the melted butter.

In a separate bowl, combine 2 cups of sugar and ½ cup of cocoa powder. Sprinkle this topping mixture on top of the dough. Pour the boiling water over the filling.

Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until the top is set. The bottom of the shoemaker will still be a little loose. Leave to cool for 15 to 20 minutes.
