HOMEMADE GARLIC NAAN
Perfect
homemade garlic Naan bread! This easy garlic naan restaurant style recipe is a
must! Also, you don't need a tandoor (clay oven) to do it at home. You will get
a soft, fluffy texture with the right amount of garlic and coriander.
INGREDIENTS
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 cloves minced garlic
- 3/4 cup plain yogurt
- 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
- 1 stick melted butter, for brushing
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- Fresh cilantro, to top
INSTRUCTIONS
First, in a
glass measuring cup, mix the yeast, sugar and water and let stand until very
frothy, about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, whisk together the flour and salt in a
large bowl and create a well in the center.
Then, stir
in warm milk and plain yogurt into the yeast mixture until well blended. Pour
the dry ingredients into the well. Stir until a dough forms, then turn on a
lightly floured surface and knead until smooth, about 3-4 minutes. Transfer the
dough to a large, lightly oiled bowl and loosely cover with a damp cloth. Let
rise at room temperature until its size doubles, about 1 hour.
Turn the
dough over on a floured surface. Knead briefly in a disc and cut the dough into
12 pieces of equal size. Roll each piece into a ball.
Heat a large
heavy bottom skillet over medium heat. Roll each ball of dough until it is
about 1/4 inch thick and about 6 inches wide. Lightly brush the dough with
butter and place one at a time on the hot pan. Cook until large bubbles form on
the surface, about 2 minutes. Turn the dough over and bake the other side until
golden, about 1-2 minutes longer. Stack the baked flat bread on a plate and
cover with a towel to keep warm while you cook the remaining pieces.
Add the
chopped garlic to the remaining melted butter. Cover loosely and microwave for
15 seconds. Brush the hot naan with the garlic butter (take some of the garlic
to sit on it) and sprinkle generously with coriander. Serve hot. Happy Cooking
Time.
