Crispy orange beef
A homemade
version of the popular Chinese restaurant dish. Tender and crispy strips of
beef are coated with a delicious tasty orange sauce on a bed of rice.
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup white sugar
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon ginger , grated
- 1/4 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup canola oil , for frying
- 1/3 cup rice wine vinegar
- 2 teaspoons orange zest , optional
- 2 tablespoons garlic , minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 1/2 pounds flank steak , thinly sliced against the grain
Instructions
First, add
the steak and soy sauce together in a large ziplock bag, letting the air inside
and shake.
Then, add
the cornstarch and let the air in the bag again before closing it, shake until
it is well coated.
Heat the oil
over medium-high heat and cook the steak strips for 45 seconds on each side.
Remove to a
plate and cook in batches.
Drain most
of the oil, leaving only a tablespoon.
Add the
ginger and garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
Add sugar,
vinegar, orange juice and zest and stir.
Add the beef
