Cheesy White Pizza Casserole
The White
Pizza Casserole is a delicious mix of white pizza cheese sauce, pasta and lots
of pepperoni, cooked to crisp perfection.
Ingredients
- 6 oz pepperoni's
- 2 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 4 cups dry penne pasta (cook based on package directions)
Sauce:
- 2 cups heavy cream (warm)
- 1 medium onion (minced)
- 1/2 cup parmesan (grated)
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme (diced)
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh oregano (chopped leaves only)
Instructions
First, preheat
the oven to 350 degrees F.
Then, in a
large skillet or saucepan over low heat, add the butter once the onion is
almost melted and diced and cook until it is transparent, about 5 minutes.
Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
Add the
garlic and cook for another 30 seconds. T
Add the
flour and stir to distribute the flour. Increase the heat to medium and cook
for a minute or two, stirring continuously.
Slowly add
the hot cream to a slow drizzle and stir constantly to avoid lumps.
Bring the
cream mixture to a boil and cook until it thickens slightly.
When the
sauce has the consistency of a sauce, season it with fresh thyme, oregano and a
pinch of salt and pepper.
Remove from
the heat and stir in the Parmesan.
Cook penne
pasta according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
Add the
cooked pasta, 3/4 of the pepperoni, 1 cup of grated mozzarella cheese and the
white pizza sauce to a large bowl and mix gently to combine.
Pour the
mixture into a greased 9x13 '' pan. Sprinkle 1 cup 1 / s of mozzarella cheese
on top (you can use more or less cheese), garnish with the remaining pieces of
pepperoni.
Bake 25 to
30 minutes or until cheese is golden and bubbling.
For a golden
brown top, grill for the last few minutes of cooking.
