Carne Guisada
Pieces of
beef simmered in a tasty Mexican sauce. Flour tortillas go perfectly with this
carne guisada recipe.
Ingredients
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 cup water or beef broth
- 2 pounds chuck steak, sliced thinly
- salt and pepper to taste
- 3 large Roma tomatoes, chopped
- 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
- 2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 onion, peeled and chopped
Instructions
First, in a
Dutch oven or large skillet over medium heat, heat the oil.
Then, add
onions and garlic and cook until softened.
Add the beef
and cook until lightly browned.
Add the
tomatoes and cook, mashing with the back of a spoon, until they soften and
release the juice.
Add water or
broth. Bring to a boil, skimming the foam floating on top.
Add the
peppers.
Reduce the
heat, cover and simmer for about 40 to 50 minutes or until the beef is tender.
Add the
potatoes and cook for about 8 to 10 minutes or until the sauce is tender and
thickened.
Season with
salt and pepper according to your taste. Serve hot.
