Carne Guisada

Carne Guisada

Pieces of beef simmered in a tasty Mexican sauce. Flour tortillas go perfectly with this carne guisada recipe.

Ingredients
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 cup water or beef broth
  • 2 pounds chuck steak, sliced thinly
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 large Roma tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 onion, peeled and chopped

Instructions

First, in a Dutch oven or large skillet over medium heat, heat the oil.

Then, add onions and garlic and cook until softened.

Add the beef and cook until lightly browned.

Add the tomatoes and cook, mashing with the back of a spoon, until they soften and release the juice.

Add water or broth. Bring to a boil, skimming the foam floating on top.

Add the peppers.

Reduce the heat, cover and simmer for about 40 to 50 minutes or until the beef is tender.

Add the potatoes and cook for about 8 to 10 minutes or until the sauce is tender and thickened.

Season with salt and pepper according to your taste. Serve hot.

Happy Cooking Time.
