Baked Cheddar Mac and Cheese
Macaroni and
cheese baked with crusty bread crumbs breadcrumbs. A favorite noodle dish for
children that kids will love but that will be high enough for adults to devour.
There will be no leftovers!
Ingredients
- 4 cups milk
- 6 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 lb macaroni
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 8 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/4 tsp dry mustard
Instructions
First, Preheat
oven to 400 ° F. Cook macaroni according to package and set aside.
Then, In a
large saucepan or Dutch oven, melt the butter. Stir in flour, dry mustard and
black pepper. Bake for 1-2 minutes until well blended.
Gradually add the milk
and cook until the mixture is smooth and bubbling, about 10 minutes. You will
want to stir constantly.
Remove the sauce
from the heat and gradually add 4 cups of strong cheddar cheese and whisk until
the cheese is melted and smooth.
Add the
pasta and mix until everything is coated. Pour half of the macaroni and cheese
into a 9 x 13 greased baking dish or 12-inch cast iron skillet.
Add 2 cups of
cheese evenly, then the remaining cheese macaroon. Cover with remaining 2 cups
cheese.
Bake for
20-25 minutes or until cheese is golden and bubbly. Remove from heat and let
cool 5 minutes before serving.
