Fried Green Tomatoes

How to make fried green tomatoes! Firm green tomatoes, sliced, soaked in eggs and coated with flour, cornmeal and breadcrumbs, fried and seasoned with salt and pepper.

Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp seasoned salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour divided
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 2 Tbsp whole buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup self-rising yellow cornmeal
  • 1 tsp hot sauce
  • 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 large green tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp granulated garlic or garlic powder
  • vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

First, cut the tomatoes into 1/4 inch thick slices. Place in a single layer on lined absorbent paper. Gently press another paper towel on top. Let stand for 10 minutes.

Then, to prepare the dredging station: Place 1/2 cup of flour on a plate. In a second plate, whisk the rest of the 1/2 cup flour, cornmeal, salt, garlic, onion powder, paprika and pepper until well blended.

In a shallow bowl, whisk eggs, buttermilk and hot sauce.

Walnut the tomato slices first in ordinary flour, then in the egg wash, then in the coating of seasoned cornmeal flour. Gently press the breadcrumbs on the tomato slices. Have a pan nearby to place slices of bread.

In a 12-inch deep skillet, heat 1 inch of vegetable oil to 350-360 ° F. Fry in batches to avoid overloading the pan. Fry for 4-5 minutes in total, turning gently as needed until golden.

Remove the oil using a slotted spoon on a tray lined with paper towels. Do not stack. Season with additional seasoned salt.

Serve immediately with a dip sauce of choice.

Happy Cooking Time.
