Honey Glazed Ham
A recipe for
frozen ham with perfect honey! No dry slices here and it has such a delicious
flavor. Everyone will be back for more!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- 1 (8 - 10 lb) fully cooked spiral sliced ham
- 1 Tbsp dijon mustard
- 1/8 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 3/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp fresh orange zest (optional)
- 1 oven bag
Instructions
First, leave
the plastic or aluminum foil of the ham intact and place the ham in a large
container (or a clean sink that clogs well) and cover with hot tap water. Let
stand 45 minutes.
Then, drain
and cover with hot tap water and allow to stand for another 45 minutes. Near
the end, set the oven rack to the lowest position and preheat the oven to 250
degrees.
Unpack the
ham and remove the plastic disc under the ham bone. Place the ham in an oven
bag and wrap the bag so that it fits perfectly with the ham. Attach the bag and
cut off the excess plastic on top. Cut 4 small slits at the top of the bag.
Place the
sliced ham in a large roasting pan and bake in the preheated oven until the
center registers 100 degrees on an instant-read thermometer, about 1 to 1 1/2
hours (about 10 minutes per pound).
Towards the
end of cooking, melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add brown
sugar, honey, mustard, pepper, cinnamon, ginger and cloves and cook, whisking
constantly, until the sugar dissolves, about 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in the orange
zest and let cool until it is about the consistency of honey, about 10 minutes
(when preparing the ham, reheat the glaze if necessary if it has thickened too
much).
Remove the
ham from the oven. Increase the oven temperature to 375 degrees. Cut the bag
from the oven and roll up to expose the ham. Brush all over with 1/2 of the
glaze. Bake for 5 minutes then remove and brush with the remaining frosting.
Cook another 10 minutes. Remove from oven, cover with aluminum foil and let
stand 10 minutes before cutting and serving. Happy Cooking Time.
