SMOTHERED TURKEY WINGS
Tender,
tasty and soulful turkey wings…. Slowly cooked in a slow cooker with onions,
peppers and sauce. Succulent, hearty and delicious. The perfect dish for a
lively winter evening
Ingredients
- 3 tsp seasoning salt
- 3/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 large portobello mushroom diced
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 4-5 fresh sage leaves chopped
- 1 1/2 tsp celery seed
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 6 cups chicken or turkey broth
- 1 large red onion diced
- 2 large turkey wings separated in 3 parts( flat, drum, tip)
- 1 1/2 tsp dried thyme
Instructions
First, combine
flour and seasonings in a large bowl and whisk.
Then, coat
the turkey wings with flour, then let stand for about 5 to 10 minutes.
DO NOT THROW
AWAY FLOUR!
Pour 1/2 cup
vegetable oil into a large saucepan and turn the heat to medium.
Once the oil
is nice and warm, add a little turkey, but be sure not to overload the pan.
Remove the
turkey once golden and place it in the slow cooker.
Then mix the
onions and mushrooms in the pan and cook until they are translucent.
Combine
onions and mushrooms in slow cooker with turkey wings.
Pour the
remaining vegetable oil into the pan.
Once the oil
is nice and warm, sprinkle the excess flour.
Cook the
flour until it is nice and brown, and make sure to stir continuously.
Gently pour
in the chicken or turkey broth and whisk.
Once the
mixture is nice and smooth, add the fresh sage.
Stir the
sauce, then pour over the turkey wings.
Place the
lid on the slow cooker.
Set the slow
cooker to LOW and cook for 6 hours.
Serve with
rice or mashed potatoes and green vegetables!
