American Goulash

American Goulash

This simple jar version of American goulash cooks pasta and beef in the same pot with a house red wine tomato sauce for added flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • kosher salt
  • 16 oz tomato sauce
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato paste
  • 15 oz diced tomatoes, drained
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 1/4 cups low sodium beef broth
  • 1 cup grated extra sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons of paprika (good quality)
  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni (the size of a saucepan)
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

First, in a large skillet over medium heat, heat the oil. Place the onion in the pan and cook until slightly softened, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute more.

Then, crumble the ground beef into the pan, season with salt and pepper and cook until no longer pink, about 8 minutes. Drain the fat and return to the pan.

Stir in the tomato paste and stir to coat, then pour in the broth, tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Season with the Italian seasoning and paprika, and stir in the macaroni. Bring to a boil and cook, stirring occasionally, until pasta is tender, about 15 minutes.

Stir in the cheese and remove from the heat. Garnish with parsley. Happy Cooking Time.
